How to Play Ukulele - 5 Easy Steps

As part of my 2021 resolutions, i’d like to learn new skill set, which one of them is to play Ukulele 😆 Why a Ukulele? Well, because of quarantine, we couldn’t do our normal activities, that is for me including karaoke with my friends lol. So, because i really miss to sing along, while Smule can not satisfy me enough, i finally decided to play an instrument. Due to my space limitation, i chose Ukulele.

I started learning to play Ukulele since end of Jan-21.

From my experience, here are 5 steps to learn Ukulele :

🎸 Get a Ukulele

I believe to be able to play an instrument, we must have access to the instrument itself. So whether you borrow it or purchase it, get your hand to the ukulele first. I myself purchased a soprano ukulele last Jan-21. If you’re still confused with which type to buy, you can check this article here . However, the safest bet is to get Soprano Ukulele.

The most important think about this first step is to not overthink it. Don’t think about the accessories yet! You can explore other tools later, after you can produce a right chords or at least play a single song 😂

📱 Install Yousician apps

If you’re like me, the really beginners, who don’t even know how to tune a ukulele, don’t be afraid, because all you need is to install this single apps!

You can install it in your smartphone, tablet, or even laptop. All you need to do is to follow its instruction step by step. By the end of its first guidance, your ukulele will be tuned, like a pro.

What is the basic things you will master thru this apps? If i remember correctly it includes : basic ukulele introduction, basic chords, strum pattern, strum progression, tempo, and practice with a big song library.

🔁 Practice the basic like crazy

Like wise people say (that’s me), it took million trials to master one! So practice is the key here, and because the learning curve in Yousician apps is really casual, sometime i can practice for almost 3 - 5 hours a day.

The benefit to practice is to make your fingers strong enough to hold the strings. It will hurt as hell yes, but your finger will get used to it. With good practice, we can also memorize several basic chords, practice to synchronize strumming pattern.

🥰 Practice with your favorite song

Here comes the most exciting part. If you feel like your basic skill is sufficient enough, don’t be afraid to start scrolling a ukulele version of your favorite song! I recommend Bernadette & Ricky Somborn channel on Youtube.

Those are the guru of Ukulele beginner 😂 Their content is update with the latest hits -from the classic to Olivia Rodrigo album, and also really easy for beginner to follow through.
